Why do we wear Uniforms?
A uniform (Dobok = Korean or Gi = Japanese) is an important custom in many martial arts. These uniforms are worn in class for training as well as at formal events such as testings, tournaments, and demonstrations.
Uniforms help students adjust their mindset to know "it's time for martial arts" and the manners / expectations that come with training.
It promotes commonality/equality among the students
It builds a sense of pride in what you are doing
It sets boundaries and helps participants see the dojang or dojo and karate class as a working environment
It gives the students a sense of community, confidence, respect and discipline.
Why do we wear Sparring Gear?
Sparring gear is important to making sure that safety precautions are taken to help cut down on accidents and injuries.
Helmet to protect the head
Gloves to soften punches and protect hands
Boots to soften kicks and protect the toes.
There are other safety precautions such a rules, judges, and practice.

Why do we use training tools?
In many martial arts, the use of training tools or weapons is a common practice. The focus of many martial arts in control: control over ones body, emotions, thoughts, and actions. By introducing a weapon to the student, they must learn to extend that control from self to something outside themself.
